Crucibles
Laboratory crucibles are designed to be able to withstand extreme temperatures. These crucibles are used to hold chemical compounds which must be heated to very high temperatures. During heating, the crucibles are placed over a pipeclay triangle. The crucibles may be made of temperature resistant material such as glass or porcelain. They are available in various shapes and sizes and often have a lid attached. In chemistry labs, crucibles are used to perform gravimetric chemical analysis. Crucibles are also used to remove the moisture content from a powder by heating the powder to high temperatures. Some crucibles are designed to have small holes at the bottom and these are intended for filtration.
