20X SSC is supplied by HiMedia. It is available in the form of a colourless solution with a pH in the range of 6.9 to 7.1. 20X SSC buffer has a high ionic strength as it contains sodium chloride and it utilizes citrate as the buffering system. This solution is formulated for use in nucleic acid hybridizations and blot transfer applications in concentrations ranging from 0.2X to 20X, depending on the application. It is advisable to store this product at room temperature (15-25C).

20X SSC (Saline Sodium Citrate) is extensively used as in molecular biology as a hybridization and transfer buffer. The supplied 20X solution has to be diluted with deionized water according to the requirement of applications. It is used during Southern and Northern blotting method as it facilitates the transfer of nucleic acids to membranes. This buffer is used in DNA and RNA probe containing hybridization cocktails and to control stringency for washing steps of Southern and Northern blotting. 20X SSC is used during in situ hybridization applications like FISH and in dot blotting.
