Aesculin hydrate by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries is a high grade reagent. Also known as esculin, this compound is a coumarin glucoside. This compound is found in dandelion coffee, and in horse chestnutst, California buckeye and Prickly box plants. It has also been isolated from the plant toxin daphnin. At high doses, Aesculin ingestion can be lethal and hence must be handled with care.

Aesculin has a wide range of applications in biological and chemical industries. It is majorly used in the microbiological identification of Enterococci, Group D Streptococci and Listeria, along with some other bacterial species. Aesculin is added with ferric citrate and bile salts a culture media formulation known as bile aesculin agar. Aesculin fluoresces under long wave ultraviolet light (360 nm), whose property is lost when some microbes hydrolyse it. It is occasionally used as a vasoprotective agent in medication. This reagent is ideal for the synthesis of various compound in industrial processes, and is furthermore widely used in research applications.
