Canada Balsam by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries is a high grade reagent. Also known as Canada turpentine or balsam of fir, this reagent is a turpentine made from the resin of the balsam fir tree of boreal North America. This resin is available as a solid, which can be dissolved in essential oils to produce a viscous, sticky, colourless or yellowish liquid that turns to a transparent yellowish mass when the essential oils have been allowed to evaporate. CAS No.: 8007-47-4 Quantity Provided: 500 gm per bottle Synthetic balsamCanada Balsam has a variety of applications in chemical and biological sectors. This reagent was traditionally used in optics as glue for glass, such as lens elements, which would turn invisible when dried. Canada balsam also finds application in the construction of the Nicol prism. Furthermore, it is a stable apolar hydrophobic mounting medium for light microscopy slide preparation, especially when long term storage is desired. It conserves microscopic samples by sandwiching the sample between the microscope slide and glass coverslip, acting as the glue to fix the arrangement together. It is also used in oil painting, to attain glow and facilitate fusion. This reagent is suitable for industrial synthesis of products and research applications.
