Barium carbonate by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries is a high grade reagent. This compound is a carbonate of barium. This reagent is available as a crystalline white powder which is slightly soluble in water. This compound has a melting point of 811 C and a boiling point of 1450 C, it is insoluble in ethanol and decomposes in ethanol. Barium carbonate can be prepared from barium sulphide, either by treatment with sodium carbonate at 60 to 70 C, or by passing carbon dioxide at 40 to 90 C. CAS No.: 513-77-9 Quantity Provided: 500 gm per bottle Molecular formula: BaCO3 Molecular weight: 197.35 Assay: Minimum 98.5 %Barium carbonate has a variety of applications in chemical and biological sectors. This reagent is widely used in the ceramics industry as an ingredient in glazes. Barium carbonate acts as a flux, a matting and crystallizing agent and it combines with certain colouring oxides to produce unique colours not easily obtainable by other means. In the brick, tile, earthenware and pottery industries, barium carbonate is added to clays to precipitate soluble salts which cause efflorescence. This reagent is suitable for industrial synthesis of products and research applications.
