Benedicts reagent by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries is a high grade reagent. This is a chemical reagent mixture of sodium carbonate, sodium citrate and copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate. It is a deep blue coloured solution. The test is based on the principle that reducing sugars when heated in the presence of an alkali, are converted to powerful reducing species known as enediols. These enediols reduce the cupric compounds present in the Benedict's reagent to cuprous compounds which are precipitated as insoluble red copper (I) oxide (Cu2O). CAS No.: 63126-89-6 Quantity Provided: 500 ml per bottle Suitable for qualitative testsBenedicts reagent has a variety of applications in chemical and biological sectors. This test for monosaccharides and reducing disaccharide sugars detects the presence of aldehydes and alpha-hydroxy-ketones, also by hemiacetal, including those that occur in certain ketoses. The precipitate colour gives a rough indication of sugar concentration, where greenish precipitate indicates about 0.5 g % concentration, yellow precipitate indicates 1 g % concentration, orange indicates 1.5 g % and red indicates 2 g % or higher concentration. This reagent is suitable for industrial synthesis of products and research applications.
