Bile Broth Base is supplied by TM Media. It is used to grow Enterobacteriaceae members and culture blood clots from patients who may have an enteric fever.Enterobacteriaceae are present in diverse environments, such as the human digestive system and various ecological niches. When a patient's blood sample is sent for the widal test to detect enteric fever, it is beneficial to culture the clot once the serum has been separated, as a standard practice. The test is done by placing5 ml of blood in sterile screw-capped universal containers to allow it to clot. The serum is then separated, and 15 ml of a solution consisting of 0.5% Bile Broth Base and Streptokinase with 100 units/ml is added to each container. The addition of Streptokinase prompts quick lysis of the clot, which results in the liberation of bacteria that were trapped in it.
