Campylo Thioglycollate Broth w/ Selective Supplement is supplied by HiMedia. It is a sterile ready prepared media containing 5ml of light to amber coloured clear solution in bottles. Campylo Thioglycollate Broth w/ Selective Supplement is generally used for the isolation and maintenance and transport of cultures of Campylobacter species. It is advisable to store this ready prepared media between 2-8C. Composition (in gm/L) is as follows:

Casein enzymic hydrolysate (20.00)

Campylobacter infections occur sporadically in the summer months and usually follow ingestion of improperly handled or cooked food, primarily poultry products. Campylo Thioglycollate Medium Base (with antibiotics) is generally used as a holding medium when immediate examination and testing of samples is not possible. Campylo Thioglycollate Medium Base is also recommended by APHA for maintenance, transport and storage of cultures of Campylobacter species. It is also used for enhancement of Campylobacter species from stool samples. The medium contains necessary nutrients to promote growth of Campylobacter species. It consists of five antibiotics namely, amphotericin B, cephalothin, polymyxin B, trimethoprim and vancomycin which inhibit multiplication of normal microbial flora in faecal specimens, thereby facilitating isolation of C. jejuni. Cephalothin may not always inhibit C. fetus species and some strains may grow at 42C.
