Dey Engley Neutralizing Broth is supplied by TM Media. Dey and Engley outlined a method to evaluate neutralizers and created a medium called Dey Engley Neutralizing medium, which effectively neutralizes a wide range of antiseptics and disinfectants, such as quaternary ammonium compounds, phenolics, iodine and chlorine preparations, mercurials, formaldehyde, and glutaraldehyde. The neutralizing components of this medium include sodium thioglycollate, sodium thiosulphate, sodium bisulphite, lecithin, and polysorbate 80. Dey Engley Neutralizing Broth contains casein enzymic hydrolysate which is a valuable source of nitrogen and amino acids. Yeast extract contributes trace elements and vitamins, while dextrose is a source of energy. To inactivate various types of biocides, five neutralizers are included in the medium. Sodium thiosulphate neutralizes iodine and chlorine, sodium thioglycollate neutralizes mercurials, sodium bisulphite neutralizes aldehydes, lecithin neutralizes quaternary ammonium compounds, and Polysorbate 80 neutralizes substituted phenolics.
