Ferrous Sulphate Heptahydrate by MP Biomedicals is a high grade reagent. Also called as iron(II) sulphate, this is a salt of iron and sulphate. These reagents are available as a bluish green granular powder which is soluble in water. As a mineral it is known as melanterite. This is a secondary sulphate mineral which is formed from the oxidation of primary sulphide minerals such as pyrite and marcasite in the near-surface environment. Upon heating, iron(II) sulphate first loses its water of crystallization and the original green crystals are then converted into a brown coloured anhydrous solid. CAS No. 7782-63-0 Quantity Provided: 500 gm per pack Molecular Formula: FeSO47H2O Molecular Weight: 278.00 Soluble in water: 100 mg/mL Ferrous Sulphate Heptahydrate is widely used in chemical and biological sectors. This reagent is used in the manufacturing of iron compounds, in electroplating baths and many more uses. It is used in the prevention of chlorosis in plants and therapeutically as hematinic. Ferrous sulphate heptahydrate is used in the determination of phosphorus as per the method of Taussky and Shorr. Ferrous sulphate heptahydrate is used in cell culture applications generally bound to transferrin, citrate or other iron transport molecules. These reagents may be used in the synthesis of various compounds in industrial processes, and are suitable for research.
