Kinetin by MP Biomedicals is a high grade reagent. This organic compound is a cytokinin plant hormone. The reagent is available as a white powder which is soluble in 0.1N Sodium hydroxide. The mechanism of kinetin production in DNA is thought to be via the production of furfural, which is an oxidative damage product of deoxyribose sugar in DNA, and its quenching by the adenine base's converts it into N6-furfuryladenine, kinetin. This compound has a melting point between 262 - 272C, and must be stored at 0C.

  • Molecular Formula: C10H9N5O
  • Molecular Weight: 215.21
  • Soluble in sodium hydroxide

Kinetin is widely used in chemical and biological sectors. This hormone is used as a plant growth accelerator. It is used in plant culture media such as Murashige & Skoog media in conjunction with auxins such as indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), Indole-3-butyric acid (IBA), 1-napthaleneacetic acid (NAA) or others to induce the formation of callus, in conjunction with auxin, and to regenerate plant tissues from callus. It has also been studied as a treatment for many human disease states caused by pre-mRNA splicing errors, including familial dysautonomia and neurofibromatosis.
