Mercury phenyl acetate or phenylmercury acetate is a toxic organometallic compound. It was used as a disinfectant and preservative in paints. It is used as an antitranspirant agent for the leaves of the plant, it has the ability to retard the stomatal movements that are osmotically prompted. It has been used as an anti-fungal agent in agriculture and leather processing. It was also used as a catalyst in polyurethane systems but later discontinued due to the toxicity of mercury. It is very toxic, hazardous to the environment and can cause Contact Urticaria Syndrome (CUS) when exposed.
