Potassium acetate buffer, is supplied by HiMedia. It is available in the form of a colourless solution with a pH in the range of 5.5 to 5.7. Potassium acetate is used as a buffer in molecular biology research, notably in the isolation of DNA. Potassium acetate buffer is 3M with respect to potassium, 5M with respect to acetate with a pH of 5.55.7. It is extensively used in molecular biology. This solution is sterile and ready to use. It is advisable to store this product room temperature (15-25C).

Potassium acetate is the potassium salt of acetic acid. It is prepared by the reaction of a potassium containing base e.g. potassium hydroxide or potassium carbonate with acetic acid. Potassium acetate buffer is extensively used in molecular biology for alkaline lysis mini-prep, nucleic acid precipitation, as a buffer, for precipitating RNA following in-vitro transcription, as a certified RNase-free solution to be used in RNA-based applications.
