This is a Rappaport Vassiliadis Salmonella Enrichment Broth used for selective enrichment ofSalmonellaspecies in accordance with harmonized methods of USP, EP, BP & JP.Salmonellausually survive high osmotic pressure, grow at slightly low pH and are resistant to malachite green which inhibits many gram-positive bacteria and concurrently selectively enrich Salmonella. Magnesium chloride is present in the broth which contributes in the rise of the osmotic pressure. Soya peptone enhance the growth ofSalmonella.NaCl in the medium maintains the osmotic balance.
