High grade Soyabean Casein Digest Agar Contact Plate is supplied by Micromaster. It is available in the form of a light yellow coloured medium which has a pH in the range of 7.1-7.5. These plates are gamma irradiated for effective sterilization. The size of each plate is around 55mm and contains around 10ml media. It is advisable to store this product between 15-25C.

Various pharmacopoeias recommend Soybean Casein Digest Agar as sterility testing medium. It is also used in validation of sterility checking procedure in accordance with the microbial limit testing harmonized methodology of USP/EP/BP/JP. This medium is used in microbial limit test and antimicrobial preservative-effective test. The combination of pancreatic digest of casein and papaic digest of soybean meal makes these media nutritious by providing amino acids and long chain peptides for the growth of microorganisms. Natural sugars of soya enhance growth of microorganism. Sodium chloride maintains the osmotic balance in the medium. Agar is the solidifying agent. Tryptone Soya Agar with Lecithin and Polysorbate 80 is used in RODAC (Replicate Organism Detection and Counting) plates for the detection and enumeration of microorganisms present on surfaces of sanitary importance.

The contact plate is a plastic dish filled with agar to give a convex surface with an area of 25cm2;. The two principal applications are surface sampling and air sampling. Contact plate method is used for making the bacterial load on surfaces visible.
