Tris-Base is provided by Genei to suit the needs of molecular biology applications. Tris (CAS Number 77-86-1), or 2-Amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)propane-1,3-diol, is used in laboratories as an important components of several buffers. Tris is also combined with hydrochloric acid to make Tris HCl, which is used in several buffers. Tris is a very strong buffer and is capable of maintaining a pH of 7.1 to 9.1. At 25 C, Tris has a pKa of 8.07. As a result of its excellent buffering capacity, it forms a major component of electrophoresis buffers such as Tris acetate buffer (TAE), tris borate buffer (TBE) and Laemmli buffer used in SDS PAGE. Tris-HCl, Molecular Biology Grade by Genei is tested to be free of DNAse, RNAse or protease.
