Vertical Electrophoresis Mini System is a product by Genei for performing SDS PAGE. Sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis is a protein separation and characterization technique. The technique allows the resolution of proteins based on their mass under the influence of an electric field. SDS PAGE uses a polyacrylamide gel as the medium for the separation of proteins. The SDS imparts a uniform negative charge to all the proteins and upon application of an electric field across the gel, the proteins migrate towards the anode and separate in the gel matrix solely according to their molecular weights. The Vertical Electrophoresis Mini System by Genei contains all the required apparatus to perform SDS PAGE. The apparatus is made of injection moulding manufacturing technique and is designed for facilitating quick protein separation, while maintaining high resolution.

The system contains the following components:

(a) For gel casting:

- Combs

2 sets of 12-well teflon comb 1 mm

- 1 mm thick spacers moulded with the glass plate

- Fixed gasket

- The gel casting unit is compatible with both fresh (8 cm * 10 cm) and precast gels (10 cm * 10 cm). It has a sealing system and can at a time, allow casting for four 1 mm thick gels.

- One single insert is designed for both gel casting and running. This prevents possible damage to the gel during transfer.

- The insert accommodates precast and freshly prepared gels because of the option of both sliding camps and one screw for each clamping bar side.

- The glass plates are 2 mm thick and have the spacers bonded to them. Ultrasoft seals made of silicone and pressure bars facilitate gel casting, while preventing leakage.

(b) For electrophoresis:

- 1 set of connecting cords - 1 each of red and black

- 1 set of platinum electrodes - 1 each of red and black

- 1 lid

- 1 gel running apparatus with upper and lower tank

- 1 fixed gasket
