X-GAL is supplied by TM MEDIA. X-Gal has been used for immunohistocytochemistry applications. It is also the substrate of choice for the blue-white selection of recombinant bacterial colonies with the lac+ genotype. Itis a chromogenic substrate for -galactosidase that produces a rich blue color that can easily be detected visually over the background. It is soluble in dimethylformamide and methanol.
